Ardens-QMasters have designed a Anticipatory Prescribing template to aid decision making around end-of-life prescribing for all patients. It includes a COVID-19 page that offers guidance on end-of-life medications to use where syringe drivers are not available, and also includes guidance to give carers on how to administer end-of-life medications should a trained clinician not be available to assist. This has been developed in conjunction with Dr Steve Plenderleith, a Palliative Care Consultant in Wessex, who runs the Future Planning Project (Please follow local guidelines on management if these patients where available).
Access the Anticipatory Prescribing template in one of the following ways:
- Click on the Run Template option within the consultation.
- Click on the Add > Data using Template option outside of a consultation.
Clicking on either of the options above will display the Template Picker screen. Search for the 'Anticipatory Prescribing (Ardens-QMasters)' template using the search box provided or folder navigation pane. Select the template and click on OK.
The template has been broken down by pages on the left-hand side, navigate to the page required. Each page covers the management of a specific symptom. Please read instructions within the pages for usage guidance.
The hyperlinks will take you to the relevant part of the Future Care Planning website where you will find information to help inform your clinical decision making.
The Pain page - find the section that relates to your patient's current analgesic usage. Click on the associated link to view anticipatory prescribing guidance.
The Nausea and Vomiting page - find the section that relates to your patient's current anti-emetic usage. Click on the associated link to view anticipatory prescribing guidance.
The Breathlessness page - this page contains general guidance and a link for further information.
