Further to our QOF communication in April where we summarised the changes to QOF for 2021/22, provisional Business Rules have now been published by NHS Digital. These include the coding requirements for the new Vaccination and Immunisation QOF domain.

The coding requirements are more strict than we expected, particularly for pre-school DTaP/IPV booster vaccination (VI003) where only two booster codes are accepted (this vaccine must be explicitly coded as a booster dose):

  • Booster diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis and inactivated polio vaccination (procedure) (SNOMED 247821000000102)
  • Administration of booster dose of vaccine product containing only acellular Bordetella pertussis and Clostridium tetani and Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Human poliovirus antigens (procedure) (SNOMED 390865008)

GP practices may have been using a non "booster" code to record administration of this vaccination, which will affect QOF point achievement. Both the existing EMIS template, and the Ardens Childhood Immunisations template (prior to v15.0) include a non "booster" code as an option to record this vaccine as it is a valid clinical code to use.

Ardens Solution - QOF

  1. We have updated the Childhood Immunisations template (v15.0 and above) so that it only includes the clinical codes accepted by QOF. If you are using Resource Publisher you will have already received this update. If you are on Template Manager, and have not already received at least v15.0 of this template, please download it from the Ardens Portal and import it into "Other Templates -> Paediatrics" (this should automatically over-write the existing template).
  2. We have updated the Ardens QOF Vaccination & Immunisation search suite to reflect the above changes, and also introduced a "Data Quality" folder that will allow practices to check whether any previous vaccination coding needs changing. These searches can be found in "1.3 Ardens Admin Searches -> QOF Related Searches (v21.0 and above)". This folder can be downloaded from the Ardens Portal. Please read this support article that explains how to locate and use these.

We have also issued an update to our CQRS searches for 2021/22 and these can be found in "1.3 Ardens Admin Searches -> CQRS Searches (v21.1 and above)".
