Further to the recent CAS relating to the supply shortage of Blood tubes, Ardens have created a way to track patients who may be having their blood tests delayed.

Template entry

The Phlebotomy Template now has an option to indicate that the required equipment is not available and to diarise the delayed blood tests:

The same code is used to enter the patient on the register of those who have had a blood test deferred and also to enter a diary entry for when you would like to call that patient again. 

Please note  - the diary code does not form part of the Ardens Diary Recall System but instead forms an element of the supporting report to manage this cohort of patients.


We have created a search for you to track these patients. The searches can be located in the Population Reporting module > Ardens Searches > 1.3 Ardens Admin Searches (v22.4 onwards) > Blood Tube Shortage folder:

The search will identify any patient who has had the code from the template entered within the timeframe you specify on running the search.  

Right click in the search folder and click on the Run option, this will display the Parameters screen. Select the relevant time frame.

Once run, to view the results of the report, select the report (shown below) and click on the View Results option.

This will show you the date of the 'equipment not available' code and also the latest blood tests the patient has had. It will also show you the date of the diarised follow up (if used). This will help to identify whether there are still tests outstanding for the patient.
