The Ardens Travel Vaccinations template facilitates the recording of vaccinations administered to patients who plan to travel abroad.

Please note that Ardens has created separate templates for Childhood Immunisations, Adult Immunisations and Injections.

Access the Travel Vaccinations template in the patient record in one of the following ways:

  • Click on the Run Template option within the consultation.
  • Click on the Add > Data using Template option outside of a consultation.

Clicking on either of the options above will display the Template Picker screen.

Search for the 'Travel Vaccinations' template using the search box provided or via the folder navigation pane. Select the template and click on OK.

The template has been broken down by pages on the left-hand side to make it easy to navigate to the page you require.

The first section of the PSD/PGD page allows the user to record full consent for immunisation, or that advice has been given. It also facilitates the recording of dose, route and frequency when administering medication under PSD or PGD.

The second section shows if authorisations under PSD/PGD are already in place. To see which medication or immunisation the PSD or PGD is for, click on the chevon (arrows) icon and view the details on the right hand panel.  Please ensure that the PSD or PGD is there for the medication that is to be administered, before carrying out the procedure.

The third section allows a clinician to record a new PSD/PGD authorisation, including all relevant details of preparation, dose and route.

The NHS travel vaccines page itemises which travel vaccinations can be provided free of charge on the NHS (if the practice is signed up to provide free NHS travel vaccinations), and which are not.

The Travel history and Travel risk assessment pages allow for the recording of the patient’s travel details, women’s health details (if applicable), recommended vaccinations, as well as risk assessment information for their proposed travel arrangements.

The General travel advice page enables the user to record that advice has been given to the patient regarding, for example, health insurance, exposure to sun, stomach upsets, DVT and insect bites.

The template displays individual pages for travel vaccinations on the left panel.  Click on the relevant page to view indications, contraindications, information on courses and boosters, and to record the administration of the vaccination.

The following shows the Meningococcal disease vaccination page with procedure section highlighted:

To record that the vaccination has been administered, select from the drop down list next to Record of vaccination to record what has been administered to the patient, and then complete the boxes for manufacturer, expiry date, batch number and injection site.

Complete the template using the required fields and ensure you save the information, using the Save option.

If using the template via the Run Template option within an open consultation, you will also need to click Save to save the consultation.
