The Ardens Ear Irrigation template facilitates the recording of all information normally gathered when a patient presents for ear irrigation. This includes history, examination, risks and consent, as well as procedure and patient education.

Please note that Ardens has also created clinical templates for Hearing Loss, Otitis externa and Otitis media.

Access the Ear Irrigation template in the patient record in one of the following ways:

  • Click on the Run Template option within the consultation.
  • Click on the Add > Data using Template option outside of a consultation.

Clicking on either of the options above will display the Template Picker screen.

Search for the 'Ear Irrigation' template using the search box provided or via the folder navigation pane. Select the template and click on OK.

The template has been broken down by pages on the left-hand side to make it easy to navigate to the page you require.

The Condition page reminds the user of potential symptoms of wax build-up and the need to carry out a full assessment prior to performing the ear irrigation procedure.

The History page facilitates the recording of the appointment type, as well as any previous history, such as pain, bleeding, discharge etc.

The Examination page allows for the recording of any abnormalities, hearing test results or any other examination details.

The Risks and Consent page details contraindications and cautions to ear irrigation, and allows the user to record a contraindication, risks explained and consent for procedure.

The Procedure page includes the ability to record that the procedure has been done, and/or that an onward referral has been made.

There is also the opportunity to record on the Patient education page that the patient has been given advice and ear care education.

A Patient UK information leaflet on earwax can be accessed on the Resources page of the template, as well as recorded as given to the patient.

Ardens has also created a number of electronic versions of Consent Forms, including a consent form for Ear Irrigation.
