The Ardens Valproate pregnancy searches has been designed to assist practices with reviewing female patients of childbearing age prescribed Sodium Valproate.
To locate these searches, navigate to the Population Reporting module > Ardens Searches > Ardens Clinical Safety Searches > Medication Related Searches > Valproate pregnancy folder:
The first search 'Currently Pregnant' will display all patients currently pregnant, along with a report which will outline the pregnant patients that have been prescribed Sodium Valproate in the last 4 months.
The second search 'Female of childbearing age on valproate' will display female patients of child bearing age (between 12yrs and 55yrs), currently prescribed Sodium Valproate. The reports will break down details of those on long acting reversible contraception only and those on LARC or oral contraception.
The MHRA guidance states Valproate must not be used in women of childbearing age unless a 'Pregnancy Prevention Program' is in place. The 'Ardens Valproate Pregnancy' searches will help you to identify those patients who may need to be reviewed, to ensure they are fully informed of the risks and of the need to avoid exposure to Valproate medicines in pregnancy.
