The MHRA guidance states Valproate must not be used in women of childbearing age unless a 'Pregnancy Prevention Program' is in place. The 'Ardens Valproate Pregnancy' searches will help you to identify those patients who may need to be reviewed, to ensure they are fully informed of the risks and of the need to avoid exposure to Valproate medicines in pregnancy.
To locate these searches, navigate to the Population Reporting module > Ardens Searches > 2.10 Prescribing Safety Searches > Medication Related > Valproate pregnancy search folder:
The first search Currently Pregnant will display all patients currently pregnant, along with a sub search which will include the pregnant patients that have been prescribed Sodium Valproate in the last 4 months.
The second search Valproate I All patients currently issued will display all registered regular patients currently on Sodium Valproate. A further sub search is available to identify those patients of child bearing age, with no review in the last 1 year or they are currently pregnant. An additional search identifies patients currently issued Valproate who are not coded with a completed Valproate Annual Risk Acknowledgement Form.
To view the results of the searches, right click on the Valproate pregnancy search folder and select Run. Patients that meet the criteria of the search, will display in the Population Included tab.
