Introduction
Ardens provides searches to identify eligible patients to be vaccinated for pneumococcal.
Please note - The Ardens pneumo vaccine eligibility searches are based on the Green Book definitions of eligibility. While the Green Book defines who is clinically eligible for the vaccine in plain English, there are no SNOMED codes associated to clearly define these groups. Any searches or alerts within your clinical system are built using SNOMED codes and therefore there may be differences in interpretation when matching clinical eligibility with SNOMED codes. The vaccine alerts in the pink box are supplied by Optum and therefore the Ardens searches and alerts in the pink box may not always exactly match.
In addition, the business rules defining groups for whom payment is available (under an Enhanced Service for example) may not match the clinical eligibility as defined in the Green Book.
For these reasons, whether the patient has been identified as eligible via an Ardens search or an EMIS alert, it remains a clinical decision whether an individual patient should be eligible to receive a vaccine or not, based on their coded diagnoses and any other factors affecting eligibility.
Access Searches
To locate the searches navigate to the Population Reporting module > Ardens Searches > 3.25 Vaccinations - Pneumococcal.
Eligible Patients (unvaccinated)
The Eligible Patients folder identifies patients unvaccinated, this is broken down by eligible age ranges, plus patients at risk, housebound or living in a care home.
Each folder will identify patients that are due a 1st, 2nd or 3rd invitation and those patients that have had three or more invites should you wish to further chase these patients,
Please note - the eligibility searches include the cohort of patients that have been coded as 'Requires pneumococcal vaccination’ also
Run the reports and select View Results on the EMIS Web ribbon to view details of the patients and to export the reports to invite patients using third party messaging platforms.
Recall 5-yearly
The Recall 5-yearly reports identifies patients who are high risk who have not had a pneumococcal vaccine in the last 5 years. It breaks down patients that require a 1st, 2nd or 3rd invitation.
Low Uptake Groups
The Low Uptake Groups searches provide uptake information broken down by minority groups (i.e. Asylum Seekers, BAME, homeless, housebound, Learning Disability and Severe Mental Illness patients), These searches will display patients who have never declined, contraindicated or not had a vaccination.
