A Patient Specific Directive (PSD) is a written instruction signed by a qualified registered prescriber for medicines to be supplied/administered to a named patient after a prescriber has assessed the patient on an individual basis.
Ardens has provided practices with a page within the Adult Immunisations, Injections and Travel templates to record authorisation to be given under PSD, the administration of the medicine under PSD along with viewing the last coded PSD entry. Please note - we are unable to provide a written document as this may vary across areas.
Step 1 - GP uses the relevant Ardens template (or GP Quick Assistant protocol) to record the appropriate PSD
Due to EMIS functionality, the prescription can not be launched via this template. Please ensure you have issued the prescription following your practice processes.
The PSD/PGD options are available in the Injections template, Adult Immunisation template, Childhood Immunisation template and Travel Vaccination template.
To access the template, within a open consultation click on the Run Template option (alternatively outside of a consultation, click on the Add > Data Using Template option located on the EMIS ribbon).
This will open the Template Picker screen. Search for the appropriate template using the search box provided. Select the template once located, and click OK to launch.
Select the PSD/PGD page on the left of screen. Tick the relevant tick box within the Record PSD/PGD section, entering the specific item and any additional text using the text field provided.
Click on Save Template once complete. Do not forget to save the consultation.
Alternatively the GP can launch the GP Quick Assistant template launcher from their F12 protocol launcher tab. More information on the GP Quick Assistant protocol can be found here.
Selecting the Quick Prescribing followed by Record PSD/PGD option will open the section as described above.
Step 2 - HCA/Nurse uses the Ardens Injections template (or relevant template) to record medication administered
To access the template, within a open consultation click on the Run Template option (alternatively outside of a consultation, click on the Add > Data Using Template option located on the EMIS ribbon).
This will open the Template Picker screen. Search for 'Injections' using the search box provided. Select the template once located, and click OK to launch.
Click on the PSD/PGD page on the left hand side to view the last coded PSD entry. Click on the chevon (arrows) icon to ensure the PSD is there for the correct medication.
Click on the relevant injection page to record the administration of the medicine (e.g. B12).
If the patient requires a further injection, the Nurse/HCA is to use the follow-up section to the schedule the next one. This will then be included in the Ardens Diary Recall System.
Click on Save Template once complete. Do not forget to save the consultation.
