Ardens has created a protocol to allow healthcare professionals to quickly record consent and administration of the correct flu vaccine.
Please note - the protocol must be edited by a staff member initially to include the vaccine batch numbers and expiry dates for the practice. Access this support article for guidance on how to do this.
Once the protocol has been edited for the practice and ready to be used by practice staff, each individual user will need to add the "Flu vaccine administration 2024-25 protocol to their F12 key to be able to use it.
When you are ready to use the protocol, press F12 and select the protocol to launch:
This will open a consultation (if not already open) and display the following prompt:
If the patient is eligible for the vaccine click on the option "Eligible for NHS vaccine and has consented" and choose the appropriate vaccine type for the patient:
Select the details of the vaccine administered:
This will populate the consultation. Ensure you Save the consultation to save the details back to the patient record.
The protocol additionally includes options for:
- VIEW GUIDANCE SUMMARY ON WHICH VACCINE TO USE - this will launch a summary of the choice of vaccines to use based on eligibility.
- Vaccine already given by the pharmacist - to code a patient has been given the vaccine at a pharmacy.
- Vaccine already given by another healthcare provider - to code a patient has been given a vaccine in another healthcare setting.
- Declined vaccine - codes a decline flu vaccine code for the patient.
- Contraindicated to vaccine - codes an appropriate contraindication code for the patient.
- Record PGD / PSD and return to menu - records a PGD or PSD code. Please note this does NOT generate a document and you must continue to follow your practice guidelines.
- Not eligible but clinically indicated (adds 90X4 code) - codes the patient with "Needs influenza immunisation" in order for the patient to count towards achievement.
