Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs and can be very serious in some cases, particularly in those with COVID. PHE have recommended that patients with certain high risk conditions should be vaccinated against pneumonia – please see the PHE update here

One vaccine is thought to be protection for life and those patients who had the vaccine at age 2 do not need an additional jab.

To locate the searches navigate to the Population Reporting module > Ardens Searches > 1.5 Ardens Immunisation Searches > Pneumococcal eligible, not vaccinated folder.

The 'High risk patients' search is reporting on the patients that PHE have deemed highly vulnerable – including patients with spleen problems, some immunosuppressant patients etc. The full list of the criteria can be found under the definition tab for the search. This includes a child search looking at those high risk patients that have never had a pneumococcal vaccination. Practices may wish to review the 'Population Included' tab of this search, to view list of patients to call in accordingly.

The 'At risk, never had pneumococcal vaccination' search reports on patients at risk that have not had the pneumococcal vaccination. Child searches are available to break down the age range.
