Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs and can be very serious in some cases, particularly in those with COVID. PHE have recommended that patients with certain high risk conditions should be vaccinated against pneumonia – please see the PHE update here

One vaccine is thought to be protection for life and those patients who had the vaccine at age 2 do not need an additional jab.

To make searching these patients easier Ardens have created searches to find the patients with these high risk factors.

To locate the searches navigate to the Population Reporting module > Ardens Searches > 1.5 Ardens Immunisation Searches > Pneumococcal eligible, not vaccinated (high risk) folder.

This search folder contains three searches. The top parent search is reporting on the patients that PHE have deemed highly vulnerable – including patients with spleen problems, some immunosuppressant patients etc. The full list of the criteria can be found under the definition tab for the search

The second search is reporting on patients that have not declined or have contraindication recorded for the vaccine. These excluded searches can be perused for patients previously declined, clinicians can see if these patients should be invited again.

The third search includes those patients who have never had the vaccine not declined or contraindicated and this search can be used to invite these patients for a pneumococcal vaccine.
