To meet the current QOF requirements for CAN005, the primary support discussion should be recorded within 3 months of the cancer diagnosis. Ardens has created the following searches to support practices in identifying cancer patients eligible for a support discussion, to ensure this is completed in time.

To locate the searches, access the Population Reporting module > Ardens Searches > 5.21 Contracts - QOF - Time sensitive > Time sensitive QOF Searches – Cancer CAN005 search folder.

The above searches are based on the patients included on the QOF Cancer register (CAN001).

For search 1, this will include patients diagnosed with cancer eligible for a support discussion, with a correctly recorded primary discussion code.

For search 2, this will identify cancer patients with an outstanding support discussion. This is further broken down (search 2a) to identify where there is still time to complete the support discussion for the patient within the 3 month time frame. Please note - the support discussion can be recorded using the Ardens 'Cancer' template.

For search 3, this will include all patients recorded with an exception code for this QOF year.

For search 4, this will include all patients with exception code in place due to no response to two invitations.

Data Quality - Updating the CAN005 Placeholder Code

Prior to the release of the 'Provision of information about cancer support services available in primary care' code, Ardens provided a placeholder code for practices to use. In order to meet the QOF requirements for CAN005, practices must ensure the correct code is in recorded for payment.

Ardens has created a search to help practices identify where a placeholder code has been used. Within the Time Sensitive QOF Searches - CAN005 search folder, run search 2b:

Select the report and click on the View Results option to view the list of patients.

For each patient included, access the care record and edit the original consultation containing the placeholder code.

Access the Ardens Cancer Template to record the correct code.

Save the consultation once complete.

Please note - there is no need to delete the original placeholder code, providing the correct code has now been recorded.
